Nesting drums are a fantastic lightweight solution to eliminating heavy gear, and simplifies packing and transporting your drums. Nesting drums are precisely cut and designed to latch and unlatch, allowing smaller shells to ‘nest’ inside larger shells. 

The primary purpose of nesting drums is to simplify packing, unpacking and traveling with your kit. With your primary drum shells nested in a single case, instantly you lighten your load and become more mobile with your gear.   

Reducing as much weight as possible is essential to the nesting drum formula. Shells with thick ply and heavy hardware nested in a case would be unmanageable, defeating the primary goal of easily transporting your drums. Brownie Nesting Club kits were designed by eliminating as many pounds as possible, without sacrificing drum tonal qualities – imperative for today’s working drummers.

Nesting Drums come in a variety of size configurations, but typically shells are smaller to reduce the total amount of weight when transporting. 

Primarily, nesting bass drums are between 16” – 20″ in diameter. From there, each smaller drum in succession should have at least 3” difference in circumference. For example: 16” bass drum, 13” floor-tom, 10” rack-tom. This difference in circumference is critical for each drum to fit inside the other; keeping in mind that all hardware must have room to fit as well.

The bass drum and floor tom shells are precisely cut in-two, and one half of the shell is fitted with a wood ring sleeve. This sleeve is necessary for both halves of the drum to slide back together and resonate as one ‘body.’ The separated shells are then fitted with four Penn-Elcom surface latches to snuggly seal the shell halves back together.

Simply flip open the surface latches and remove the top portion of the shell. The rack-tom is then placed into the floor-tom, and the floor-tom is then placed inside the bass drum.
